Bitcoin’s Revolution: Africa Leads the Way in 2023

• 2022 was a defining year for Bitcoin, with many eyes turning to the technology and its potential to revolutionize global finance.
• Africa is leading the way in Bitcoin adoption, due to its necessity for people to send money, make payments and preserve their wealth.
• In 2023, the divide between Bitcoin and other financial systems is expected to grow, as more people recognize the potential of Bitcoin.

This year, Bitcoin has had a defining year, and looking back, it’s clear that people are starting to recognize its potential to revolutionize global finance. All eyes are on Bitcoin, and it’s our responsibility to educate people and governments about its real-life use cases. This year, we saw the Africa Bitcoin Conference in Ghana, which brought together pan-Africa and international leaders to talk about Bitcoin’s purpose over its price. As a legacy for the event, our team at the Built With Bitcoin Foundation opened the Bitcoin Technology Center (BTC) in Kumasi, Ghana, a learning and training center that is set to educate 400 people in its first year.

Despite the bear market, trade volume in Africa is still increasing, and on Paxful, we predict that there will be further increases in both Ghana and Nigeria in 2023. This is because of the necessity for Bitcoin on the continent – it offers a cheaper and more efficient solution for people to send money back home, make payments and preserve their wealth.

As we move into the next year, it’s clear that the divide between Bitcoin and other financial systems will continue to grow. People are starting to recognize the potential of Bitcoin, and with more education and awareness, we can bring in billions more into the global economy. We’re ready to onboard the next billion Bitcoiners, and I’m excited to see what 2023 has in store for us.
