From German to Portuguese Homesteader: Julia’s Journey with Bitcoin

• Julia, a German who moved to Portugal, talks about her homestead, local community and Bitcoin.
• She found many parallels between how she talks about Bitcoin and homesteading that she heard from many homesteaders and farmers in the U.S. this summer.
• Julia shares her backstory, the growth of the Bitcoin meetup in her local community, and what it takes to operate a homestead that feeds her family.

Julia moved to Portugal when she was 19, looking for work and adventure. Little did she know, she would soon settle in this country, and her parents and brothers would soon follow. To this day, she has only been back to her home country a few times. In her new home, Julia has built a community around her and has seen the growth of a Bitcoin meetup. She has also set up a homestead that feeds her family, and in doing so, she has found many parallels between the work she does with Bitcoin and the work of homesteaders and farmers in the U.S. this summer.

Julia shared her backstory with me, about how she made the move to Portugal and how she found a job that allowed her to stay. She also spoke about the growth of the Bitcoin meetup in her local community, and how it has brought together many people from different backgrounds, who are all interested in the same thing. Lastly, Julia discussed what it takes to operate a homestead that feeds her family. She talked about the high upfront investment and low time preference needed to make it all work.

Julia’s story is inspiring and shows how anyone can create a community and make a life for themselves in a new place. Her experience of homesteading and understanding Bitcoin is something that many other people have gone through, both in the U.S. and elsewhere. Her story serves as a reminder that anything is possible with a little bit of hard work and dedication.
